Labyrinth Services
The labyrinth is a path that allows for contemplation, connection, and deep understanding. Unlike a maze which is designed to trick you with dead ends and false turns, the labyrinth has one entrance and a single path that leads to the center and back out again.
I have been attracted to the design of labyrinths for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer that I became a seeker and practitioner of labyrinths. This was also a time in my life when I was raising 2 small children, living in a 3 generational household, and transitioning careers. The addition of anticipatory grief made it difficult to maintain a sitting meditation practice that I had been doing for over 15 years. Walking in general was helpful in those times as was walking meditation, but walking the labyrinth was even better.
It was in the labyrinth that I could trust the path and allow whatever thoughts and feelings were present to be there. The labyrinth was a container bigger than me, older than me, and could hold the deep feelings and uncertainty that were surrounding me. Moving my body helped me to metabolize the often-overwhelming sensations of that point of my life and gave me a way to better understand myself and those around me. A hobby of finding local labyrinths and walking them turned into a passion eventually brought me to assist Kathryn Bikle, LMFT a colleague and Veriditas Trained Labyrinth Facilitator in the labyrinth workshops she developed. With an investment from The Place Within, a community non-profit mental health center, Kathryn and I purchased a 25 x 25-foot portable labyrinth and took these workshops to professional mental health practitioners and the general public.
In 2022, I took a pilgrimage to Chartres, France and the labyrinth at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres. It was there that I completed my Veriditas facilitator training with Lauren Artress, author and founder of Veriditas and the Labyrinth Movement. My intentions are to offer others the opportunity to discover labyrinths, deepen their understanding and practices, and help individuals, families, and communities heal.
With secular and affirming frameworks for working with the labyrinth, I love designing events that are deeply meaningful and connecting for participants. I combine my background in contemplative science, somatic healing, creativity, and ecotherapy in labyrinth workshops and events. Even with that, it’s my belief that it is the labyrinth and the individuals who enter a relationship with it that do all the work. It’s been a pleasure to witness the transformative effects that the labyrinth has to offer.
Feel free to connect if you would like to host a labyrinth event or educational opportunity. I can use a portable, canvas labyrinth taken to a location or one that is in your community. I can also offer on-line finger labyrinth events.
